Objective

Gemswell Surf Madrid is the largest surf lagoon in Europe: 23,000 square metres next to the Metropolitano stadium, built on Basque Wavegarden technology, opening in 2027.

Glassy had already produced the film that introduces the park to the general public. This second film had a different job. Gemswell Society is the private members’ club inside the park, and the piece had to make a future member feel what belonging there is like, at a standard closer to a short film than to a promotional video.

The venue is still a construction site.

Challenge

There was nothing to shoot. No club, no lagoon, no light to photograph.

And a members’ club cannot be sold as a list of facilities. The moment a film becomes a tour of the spa, the gym and the lounge, it dies.

The hard part was invisible. Six characters had to hold the same face, the same hands and the same wardrobe across the entire piece. The light had to follow the arc of a single day. And the water had to behave like water, which is the one thing every surfer detects in half a second without being able to explain why.

Process

Written as a film, not as a tour. A full treatment and a shot by shot script came before any image. One day at the club, told through three threads that cross without ever explaining themselves. The club is the protagonist. The members activate it.

Six characters built before they existed. A family with two children, a woman arriving alone, a man of sixty four. Each one given a personality, a history, desires and fears, then wardrobe and reference sheets locked before a single frame was generated.

The place before the people. Empty plates of every space were generated first, matched to the real architectural maps of the project, to fix geometry, materials and light. Characters were placed into that world afterwards, never the other way around.

A colour arc as the backbone. Cold blue at dawn, neutral through the middle of the day, low gold at sunset. The viewer feels a day pass without being told.

Water as the benchmark. Generated water is where AI usually breaks: foam that floats wrong, waves that break in the wrong direction, boards that displace nothing. Every water shot was judged against real surf footage and regenerated until the physics held.

AI end to end, including the score. Scripts, characters, environments, light, water, surfing and music, all generated. The music was composed with AI from a reference set chosen in house.

Human direction on every frame. The tools generate options. The edit, the pacing, the performances kept and the shots thrown away are the same craft as always.

Result

A film of almost three minutes, entirely generated, delivered as a members-only piece for the Gemswell Society sales process.

Six characters holding consistent identity across every scene, environment and time of day in the piece.

Zero shooting days and zero locations. The club was filmed a year and a half before it opens its doors.

The second film delivered for Gemswell, after the piece introducing the park to the general public.

Learnings

You can sell a place before it exists, if you sell what happens inside it. The facilities are the least interesting thing a private club has. What sells a membership is the feeling of walking in and being recognised.

Realism lives in the details nobody can name. Nobody buys a film because the spa looks good. People stop believing when the water moves wrong. Spend the effort where the audience is unconsciously expert.

In generative production, consistency is the craft. Anyone can generate a beautiful frame. Holding a face, a light and a physics across three minutes is direction, and it is the part that cannot be bought with a subscription.
